By Bart Polanski

Carlsbad is not only a special place to visit, but it's a great place to live. With an abundance of sites to see and an ample amount of coastline, it's easy to make a day out of visit to Carlsbad on your next trip to San Diego. There are resorts, golf, restaurants and even an amusement park. Well you probably can't do everything in one day, so let's take a look at how a nice day in Carlsbad might unfold.

There's nothing like starting the day off with a walk on the beach. Locals and tourists alike enjoy the laid back atmosphere of Carlsbad beaches in comparison to the more touristy locations. There usually is a lot of parking and plenty of room to throw a Frisbee or set up beach blankets. There is also a great walkway along the coast you can ride your bike or push a stroller while enjoying the Pacific breeze and ocean views.

Walking on the beach can work up a thirst and an appetite. Carlsbad has a lot of choices when it comes to dining---from great sushi to pizza. There aren't many restaurants in Carlsbad that represent the city better than Pizza Port on Carlsbad Village Drive. If you are just there for the handmade California style pizza, you are in luck as Pizza Port has the best pizza around. But there is something else that is equally special in this establishment...the beer. Carlsbad Pizza Port was awarded the best large brewpub and large brewpub brewer of the year for 2009. The award covered not just for San Diego or California alone--- it was for all of North America! So enjoy a slice and if you're 21 or older try a craft Port beer.

There are plenty of fun activities for the entire family in Carlsbad, including the little ones. Carlsbad surprisingly is home to the amusement park Legoland. As the only location outside of Europe, it hosts a variety of rides, exhibits, demonstrations and even a re-creation of sites all over the world created with millions of Legos. In addition you to Legoland you can take the family to the Sea life Aquarium which takes an educational and entertaining approach to getting children excited about the wonders of the ocean.

Taking a hike is another great way to get exercise and enjoy the Carlsbad weather. The Batiquitos Lagoon has an excellent low impact nature trail that is located in the southern part of Carlsbad in the Aviara area. It's a great place to take a jog and enjoy the sites of the variety of birds and plants that make this habitat their home. The trail is easy to access with multiple locations on Batiquitos Dr. to park.

As you can see Carlsbad has a little bit of everything to offer. It has the convenient location to easily get to the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, and it has the laid back feeling that you won't get in a big city. Carlsbad is a great place to enjoy the SoCal liefestyle. So next time your in San Diego take a visit to Carlabd to see what the city by the sea is all about. - 30543
